It's never a better time to adjust your skin care regimen than winter.
Lower temperatures decrease immunity and skin barrier importance grows.
As skin matures has a tendency for dryness and windshield factor accentuates it. Dry skin results in exacerbation of wrinkles, poor elasticity and sagging.
What should our Skin care for Winter regimen be?
Hydration is very important and starts with adequate water intake, avoid excessive alcohol, added moisturizers to daily and night regimen. We proudly recommend for day Radiant C cream, Ultrahydrating Booster and Rotox serum. At night a vitamin C serum is a must, as is a creamy vitamin E and mild Retinol combination. Try Retinol Co Q10 night cream and Vitamin CE with Ferulic.
A softer cleanser with added moisturizer like beta enzyme cleanser is recommended.
Avoid any harsh cleanser, Retinoid products or powerful abrasive tools.
Only exfoliate every other week for a dry prone skin and every week for T zone or an acne prone skin.
Its laser time as UVA protection is creating a relaxed solar time until April, but careful, laser light and laser gels dry skin so added moisturizer is a must. If severe pigmentation is a problem, photo facials and powerful chemical peels are recommended as long as after treatment home care is very strict with adequate sun protection, moisturizer and No direct sun exposure.
Winter can bring snow and a more powerful reflection of the sun, therefore daily vitamin C and sun protection application is a must.
What Winter changes should our make up consist of ?
I'm not a make up specialist but as a skin care doctor, I'm always in favor of a light sheer skin coverage to allow exchange of oxidative products out of the skin ; added moisturizer in the foundation, and SPF of 30 or more, rain or shine.
Even though soap is still being used as a cleanser by more than 30% of women, in winter time is far from being the best solution. Soft cleanser once a day to remove make up, where necessary supplement with toner in the morning followed by Radiant C cream.
While we nourish skin of the face and neck often we tend to forget to care for our elbows, heels and hands. So do prepare for winter and pack wherever you travel coconut cream to soften your body parts and easy your mind. As solar exposure decreases, unless we travel to sunny places, in NY we need to change our habits and spend more time outdoors between 7 am to 4pm or supplement our intake with daily Vitamin D 3000-5000units, Vitamin C 1000-3000 mcg, Minerals ( Zn, Co). skin.
